ABOUT

Nara Clapperton is a classical singer, specialising in opera and musical theatre. Nara is based in Buckinghamshire, most recently holding the role of Head of GCSE Music at a secondary school, teaching Music from Year 7 to Sixth-Form. After earning a 1st class degree in Music Performance at The University of Chichester, Nara received her PGCE and QTS at the University of Cambridge. This has led her to have an in-depth knowledge in classroom and 1-1 teaching. Nara is currently studying for her MSc in Performance Science at the Royal College of Music. She also teaches singing privately. Her teaching experience spans from running band workshops and after school clubs, to running choirs and teaching singing and music theory, as well as spending a term as a primary school music teacher for Year 5 and 6.

During her time training as a classical singer, Nara travelled to Triora, Italy, in July 2016 and 2017 to perform with Triora Musica in their performances of 'La liberanzione di Ruggiero dall'isola di Alcina' by Caccini (performing the roles of Sirena and Prima Damigella) and 'La Dafne' by Gagliano (performing the role of Amore). Through her association with Triora Musica, Nara had the opportunity to record with Musica Secreta on their award winning CD 'Lucrezia Borgia's Daughter: Princess, Nun, Musician', as heard on ClassicFM. She has also performed with OperaCoast in their productions of 'Manon' by Massenet, and 'La Rondine' by Puccini. She most recently performed with the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra in their performance of 'La Boheme'.

Adding to her European travels, Nara sang in Chartres, France, with the University of Chichester to sing the First Soprano solo in Handel's 'Dixit Dominus' in her first year at the university (2017). Nara has performed in many community events, as well as in The Brighton Early Music Festival - with a notable performance being her role as Cupid in the premier of 'Gaia' (2016), in which she was the youngest soloist that BREMF had ever cast.

After singing with the Brighton Festival Youth Choir for 5 years prior to going to college, Nara continued to sing in choirs both at University and in her community, with the University of Chichester's Symphonic Choir performing at Goodwood House, Leatherhead Theatre, and Chartres, to name a few, as well as recording in the world famous Abbey Road Studios.

Nara has also had her fair share of time doing musical theatre over the last few years, performing on the West End with the West End Stage Summer School, and in a production of 'Our House - The Madness Musical', as well as taking part in workshops with the West End cast of 'Wicked' and 'Memphis - The Musical'. She has a variety of musical theatre songs in her repertoire.

Nara's experience on stage extends beyond musical performances into acting, most recently playing the lead, Katerina, in Alexander Ostrovsky's 'The Storm' at the University of Cambridge.
